Medicare Savings Program

Medicare Savings Program

You may qualify to save money on your health care costs. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services estimate that 18,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Kansas qualify for additional cost savings programs like “Extra Help,” but simply aren’t enrolled. With funding from the Kansas Department on Aging, Kansas Area Agencies on Aging Association (K4A) has partnered with the Medicare Rights Center to launch an initiative aimed at connecting seniors and people with disabilities with programs such as “Extra Help” and Medicare Savings Programs, which provide substantial health care savings on premiums, deductibles, co-payments, and prescription drug costs for those who qualify.

People interested in this program, or their caregivers, are encouraged to call the Area Agency on Aging nearest them by dialing 1-866-457-2364. This toll-free number will automatically connect the caller with a representative at the Area Agency on Aging that serves their calling area, who will provide complete assistance with the qualification and application process. Income and resource qualifications depend on a variety of factors, so if you or your loved one is on a fixed income and would like help paying for Medicare and prescription drug costs, you are strongly encouraged to apply. Veterans are encouraged to check with their benefit coordinator to determine how these programs work with their Veteran Benefits.

K4A represents eleven Area Agencies on Aging who coordinate services and provide assessment, information, case management and numerous other services for seniors in all 105 counties of Kansas. More information about these programs and links to applications can be found online at the K4A Web site. There you can also find the Medicare Savings Program brochure (PDF).
